In the examples below I am just playing with the contrast of my shadow layers. I have three of them. At top they are like 25%, 50% and 100%. In the middle they are closer to 50%,75% 100%. At bottom, they are 20%, 40% 60%.

I do feel a ned to put down the iPad and also take up the pen again as well. I don't want to get rusty. Here is another one from Soulard. This one has a bit of textured brush also.

Courbet Copy - Changing to "Procreate" Painting Application

Despite the funny name, "Procreate" has nothing to do with sex, and all to do with digital painting. I exported my image from Brushes 3 and imported it into a Procreate file. I am using that application to continue with this digital copy.

Here are some exercises from Michael Anderson's two day workshop on digital painting. I was only able to attend the second day, but I got lots of good exercises and a few new techniques including more understanding of setting up custom brushes, how to use those brushes and managing colors and values on different layers. Thanks for a good workshop Michael!

Plein Air Painting

This weekend I went about 75 miles out of town for a plein air painting event with Bruce Wulff. Unfortunately, it rained most of the time we were there. We fled from the rain early, but I did capture this brief little sketch. The iPad screen looks darker in the bright light, so the coors turned out a bit more saturated and brighter than they perhaps should have been.

I just threw a background in to test the transparency and show that the object can be superimposed on a variety of backgrounds.
