Last Sundays Drawings

I want to begin to understand and be able to remember costumes and draapery.
It is like anatomy, there is some general costume and drapery anatomy to understand, and then the details of a memory can be worked out realistically.

It's a fun challenge. I'm going to try this in my figure drawing class and see how it works out...
  • take a short look
  • turn around
  • draw
  • return and compare memory to reality
I am meaning to do more watercolors. I suppose I need to do some marker sketches, and then come home and do some watercolors. The markers are so much easier to carry, and with some that have a brush-like tip, it isn't too far from watercolor.

Today's images

Here are some sketches with the marker. Some I did on the bus, or while waiting. The last two or three, I did from memory an hour or so later. They are primitive.

The last one was difficult working from memory. I saw two people at a midnight Hamburger Restaurant. I tried to remember them after getting home. The guy had such crazy dreadlocks... I guess that I didn't doo a very good job of analysing them in my mind before hand.

Boots.... boots... I have to practice drawing boots and shoes.

Charcoal Study

Here is a 30 minute charcoal study that I did last night. Sorry about the quality of the 4th shot.

What's with that paper anyhow? Maybe I am drawing on the wrong side: all those vertical lines... Sorry... I'm just on the 'art' drug lately... I'm fiendin' for a fix!

Sketchbook Stuff

Here is a drawing I did in class this week. A guy was coming around asking if I wanted to borrow a large sheet of paper as I was drawing happily in my sketchbook. I guess he thought I looked needy with my little sketchbook.

I am beginning some more anatomy studies.

I'm considering drawing such gestures as these last ones(exclusively) until I can turn them into something worthy. I don't know if that's the massochistic side of me? It could lake some time. Right now they are pretty feeble. Some of the last ones were copied from the Loomis book: Figure Drawing FAIW.

Construction and pelvis studies

Construction and pelvis studies

Pelvis

These studies were fun to do. I think next time if I use washe to darken, I will embhasize the forms as opposed to the negative space. I think it would present better with the text notes.
