Drawing after a few week break
I'm back after a few weeks... or so... Anyway, I've been too busy to do the daily posting of what I'm
working on. Here is something that I am working on from a sketch I did
last night. I wonder if anyone might like to critique as I go?
I am just playing with doing a digital version from my memory and studying the effects of light. Here is a gesture of the basic values. I don't know why I used a fuzzy brush on the jeans at this point. For no reason really since I am just blocking it in.
Ok, I'm taking a different approach here. I had to start over. I like this better.

Continued Portrait
A more developed portrait drawn on a grocery sack |
Paper grocery sacks are becoming rarer here. I get them from a Grocery store called Aldi's. they actually charge you 15 cents for each bag. Not bad though to draw on.
The paper does like to suck in the ink a little bit. I am going through the Nexus pens voraciously. They don't really last all that long. I think if I drew a bit slower and more judiciously they would last longer.
I need to do some more break-downs like that. I reverted to relying on my drawing too much and copying, instead of studying the anatomy anew the second time. Old habits are hard to break. It is so disheartening at times how difficult it is to keep consistently progressing and breaking through the layers of old.

Portrait Study
I know this is just a drawing from class, but I wish I had a cleaner technique here. Perhaps I am just too hurried.

Soaking it all in
I'm trying to be a sponge... it's frustratingly slow sometimes, but when
I look back it is encouraging. The first attempts are so tentative with
the strokes, and I didn't grasp the form as wheel as I am coming to now.
I'm not really as happy with these last ones however. I have to make busy tonight.
On concepts: Sometimes I really have no concept but the faintest of the direction or concept behind a drawing. I just let it guide itself. I wish I could work better from an idea to completion, but I can't very well yet.

After Vacation Sketches
I'm finally back after my vacation. I unfortunately did little sketching
at all the last few weeks because I was to busy visiting friends and
family and having fun in general.
Here are my attempts to get going again. My goal this year is to draw everyday. Here are yesterdays drawings
